Hotel 1915 with its convenient location on Leboh Ampang, in the historic downtown area of the city, and its up to date facilities, has been created with the modern and value conscious traveller in mind. Occupying an elegant old building, constructed in 1915 and now freshly renovated, Hotel 1915 has Kuala Lumpur’s rich multicultural history right on its doorstep, just waiting for you to explore.

Stepping from the bustling Leboh Ampang, one of the city’s oldest streets, into the lobby of Hotel 1915 one is greeted by the cool and welcoming calmness of its contemporary décor, natural materials and muted shades of grey and white. An information counter and internet stations offer guests the convenience to organise their sightseeing and other activities in Kuala Lumpur, and making onward travel plans further afield.

Hotel 1915 could not be better located for those who wish to explore Kuala Lumpur, its history and its rich culture.

The original settlement which later became the city was founded in around 1857 at the confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers. It developed as a trading post with something of a ‘wild west’ atmosphere, where the Chinese miners prospecting the tin ore laden sediments of the Klang valley could come to buy provisions, borrow money, trade and generally let off steam.

The first streets including Leboh Ampang, famous for its ‘Chetty’, Indian moneylenders and sundry goods traders, grew from this point. Many of the old Chinese straits style shop houses of brick and stucco are still standing and doing business today, the wooden ones though have rarely survived. Most of the city’s important historic landmarks are also to be found very close by.

What’s Nearby

The peace and calm of Masjid Jamek, the city’s most famous Mosque is on the riverbanks 2 minutes from the hotel. Also between the river and green open space of Merdeka Square sits the beautiful Sultan Abdul Samad building.

A little further along the banks of the Klang river is Central Market, a shoppers delight filled with all manner of arts, crafts and antiques. Exploring the maze of side streets here, tucked between the old shop houses one can even find Indian and Chinese temples. For bargain hunters Petaling Street in the nearby ‘Chinatown’ neighbourhood is a must, whilst Jalan Masjid India two minutes from the hotel in the other direction is the place to buy saris, incense and all manner of goods from India.

Kuala Lumpur is rightly famous for its huge variety of tasty and exotic food, and indeed from the moment the traveller steps out from Hotel 1915, the aroma of freshly roasted spices will tempt one. Delicious and inexpensive South Indian restaurants abound in Leboh Ampang. In the next street are several international fast food outlets around the LRT station and two streets further on, some Malay and a myriad of Chinese restaurants serve everything from simple street food, noodles and satay, to a feast fit for an emperor.

Also within 100 metres of the hotel is an LRT station giving the traveller direct access to the city mass transit system, the main line station with its direct link to the International Airport and KTM railway service extending to both Singapore and Thailand.
